An educational collaboration

From an internship to student employee culminating with a thesis collaboration. That is the journey Line Jensen and Blue World Technologies have been on - a strong collaboration benefitting their future path.

In August 2020, Line started as an intern in Blue World Technologies’ PR & Communication department as part of her 9th semester studying English and International Business Communication at Aalborg University. When her internship came to an end, she was offered a chance to stay as a student employee. While working at Blue World during her last semester of her masters, she proposed interest in a thesis collaboration with Blue World doing research of their investor relations.

“I was very happy when I got the position as an intern in Blue World Technologies. I actually got the position six months before I started, but at Aalborg University, they advise us to find an internship a semester in advance. The job tasks were right up my street, as they fitted within my studies in humanities, and not the least, my interests. Therefore, I was also very happy that I got the opportunity to stay as a student employee as I thrived in the team and with my assignments. I got to be a big part of the developing activities within PR & Communication and gained a lot of experience.”

The content writer

One of the primary roles Line had as an intern and student employee was to produce content. She produced everything from articles to quarterly and yearly reports, SoMe posts, website content, press releases, and employer branding content. She got a lot of hand-on experience in which the green agenda meant a lot to her.

“I have been very passionate about all the different articles and content I have produced for Blue World. Not the least all the press work consisting of producing press releases about complex and technical topics with both internals and externals partners. I have found that very interesting, but another interesting factor is that the technology of methanol fuel cells has a political agenda to it. We need to promote and inform about the several benefits of methanol as an important player within Power-to-X.”

An assignment that really stood out for Line, was the production of a 5-minutes video promoting internships for Marine and Technical Engineers at MARTEC and Aarhus School of Marine and Technical Engineering. During this process she taught herself the Adobe Premiere Pro editing program by googling and watching tutorials.

“A really challenging but fun assignment was to produce a short video promoting future Marine and Technical Engineering interns to Blue World. In a team with my manager, we prepared a script for our colleagues we were going to interview and shot the footage together. Then I had to cut and edit in Adobe Premiere Pro, which was basically self-taught. It was such a success to see the final result after working intensively on it. It ended up as a really good product while I was having a good time making it.”

Investor relations research

As Blue World Technologies has seen great interest from both larger and smaller investors from their previous investment rounds, they have established a good investor base. Hence, Line found it interesting to conduct research on the relations they are creating with their investors. Meanwhile, she also interrogated how the collaboration in their internal investor team was and how it influenced their work with investors.

”It was an incredibly interesting thesis to do, as it showed the more soft side of investor relations, and that relations are actually a large factor to why investors are choosing to invest. It is also a scarce research area within communication, which made it even more exciting but also challenging. Blue World was also very interested in the collaboration, as they could improve their investor relations and get an insight into how their investors perceived them.”

The inclusive workspace

Line expresses a great fondness of having been a part of the Blue World Technologies team. She explains that there is the international environment fit as a glove for her, and that everyone is respectful of each other. Not the least, the methanol fuel cell technology has really grown on her which she really has enjoyed throughout her time in Blue World.

“In Blue World, the working environment is very relaxed, and you get appreciated for your knowledge. There is mutual respect among all of us, no matter if you are talking with another intern, a PhD, or the CEO. I had to get used to the technical language of methanol and fuel cells, but as technical communication has been part of my education, I quickly got the hang of it. Also, being able to use my English skills actively in the content I created, but also among my colleagues, is a thing I have valued very much.”

Line finished her master thesis in the summer of 2021, after which she spent the summer working for Blue World, before moving on to new and exciting challenges. She explains what she has appreciated mostly during her time at Blue World Technologies and in collaboration with all of her colleagues:

“Besides getting a lot of hands-on experience at Blue World, you also get wonderful colleagues. I was quickly an integrated part of the administration office, and especially with my manager. We worked very well together, making room for our different professional opinions while trying to find the best solution to the challenges we would meet. She was very open to hear my opinion, and we used each other as sparring partners with made our work very dynamic.”
